Kim Kardashian files for divorce from Kanye West
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are over
They are well known for their public fights, their breakdowns and the proposal, worth millions of dollars. Throughout their marriage they have been in the center of attention. The marriage between Kim Kardashian West (40) and Kanye West (43) has without a doubt been eventful. Still, all good things come to an end.
For several years, “Kimye” has been one of the world’s most famous couples. They nearly managed to stay husband and wife for seven years, before Kim recently decided to file for divorce. An anonymous source close to the couple, told TMZ that the superstar is asking for shared custody for their four common children, North (7), Saint (5), Chicago (3) and Psalm (1).
Shortly after Kim ended her marriage with former NBA player Kris Humphries, Kim and Kanye started dating. A date Kim had filmed, and shared with the public in 2016. The same year as they started dating, during a concert in Atlantic City, Kanye announced that Kim was pregnant with their first child. Their daughter North West was born in June 2013.
Million Dollar Proposal
From 2013, the big events came rolling for the couple. In an extravagant proposal in a baseball-stadium in San Francisco, Kanye asks for Kim’s hand in marriage.
According to Eonline, Kanye was not frugal. A proposal, including an engagement ring, containing a 15-carat diamond, in addition to an orchestra and fireworks, ended up costing Kanye more than 3 million dollars. In the famous Kardashian style, Kim’s entire family attended the event from the stands.
– He’s the most romantic person I’ve ever met. The lights go on and then the orchestra starts playing my favorite song by Lana Del Rey, Kardashian told Vogue right after the proposal, according to Eonline.
Magnificent Wedding
Difficult year
Still, the couple’s marriage has not always been a walk in the park. In 2016, the marriage got more eventful than they bargained for. The couple got in to a big, public dispute with Taylor Swift, Kim was robbed in Paris and Kanye had a mental breakdown.
The much talked about quarrel between Taylor Swift and Kimye, started way back in 2009, when Swift at the age of 19, won a VMA award for best music video. Kanye was outraged, stormed the stage and claimed that Beyoncé had one of the best music videos of all time. After this, things have gone from though, to tougher, with the one conflict after another.
In 2016, Kanye released the song «Famous», where he raps «I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous ».
The criticism did not wait, but Kanye defended himself by saying that he had clarified it all with Swift, in an hour-long telephone conversation. Surely, Swift was of another opinion. According to her, she had never accepted the use of either “bitch” or the stanza that said “I made that bitch famous.” Later on, Kim enters the public discussion, claiming that the conversation between Kanye and Taylor had been recorded.
In 2020 the unedited version of the conversation between Kanye and Taylor was released, which showed a slightly different side than what Kardashian had stated back in 2016. In the video, Kanye only records parts of the lyrics, but not the part where he calls her “bitch”, and then takes credit for that she is famous.
Assaulted and robbed
In October of 2016, while staying in Paris in connection with Fashion Week, Kim Kardashian was robbed. Five men came in to the hotel room, where she was staying. They gagged her, tied her up and locked her in the bathroom. The men got away with values of more than 9 million dollars. Kim’s engagement ring alone was worth more than four million dollars. During one of his concerts this day, Kanye found out about the robbery, and cut the concert short:
– “I’m sorry. It’s a family crisis. I have to stop the show,” West said before running off stage.
Breakdown
No more than one month after the brutal robbery in Paris, Kanye experienced a mental breakdown, and was hospitalized. During a concert in Sacramento, Kanye scolded both Jay-Z and Beyoncé. After four songs, he left the stage, whereupon the next day he published 99 blurry photos on Instagram. Kanye was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and his wife Kim stated in an interview, with Vogue, that her husband had accepted the diagnosis.
– “It is an emotional process. Right now, things are pretty calm, but we can definitely notice when there are new episodes around the corner, and now we know how to deal with them. There is no alternative for him to go on medication, because it changes who he is”, Kim Kardashian said in the interview, according to ET.
However, this was not the last time Kanye made headlines with his statements. Several fans were concerned about the rapper’s mental health, when he in a live interview with TMZ made several controversial statements. Among other things, he said that slavery was “a choice”.
President
On July 4th of 2020, Kanye tweeted that he would run for president. He also made headlines when, during a presidential campaign in South Carolina, he said that he, and his wife Kim, discussed the possibility of abortion when she was pregnant with the eldest daughter North West.
– “Kanye is not in a good place in life and does not listen to anyone who tries to get him to seek help. Kim is not happy with Kanye’s tirades, and especially the one about the possibility of abortion. She knows it’s something North will see when she gets older and it’s heartbreaking”, an anonymous source said at the time, according to ET.
Met in Wyoming
After Kanye’s tirade in South Carolina, Kim came to visit his farm in Wyoming. In the article TMZ published, one could see Kim crying in the car during a discussion.
In January 2021, a source told ET that Kim during the previous summer had decided enough was enough, and that she had to end the marriage. Kim’s last attempt to save the marriage was apparently a trip to Wyoming, which ironically where the trip that made Kim realize that the marriage was over. For good.
An era in the star couple’s life is now over. A source told ET, that they “love each other, but know that the marriage cannot be saved“:
– In any case, the children are priority number one, and they will continue to have a good relationship for the sake of the children.
