The 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland, following the country’s victory in 2024 with the song “The Code” performed by Nemo. This will mark Switzerland’s third time hosting Eurovision, having previously held the contest in Lugano (1956) and Lausanne (1989).
The Grand Final is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, at St. Jakobshalle, a multi-purpose indoor arena in Basel. The Semi-Finals will take place earlier that week, on Tuesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 15. St. Jakobshalle has a capacity of up to 12,400 and is renowned for hosting major international events .
Basel, Switzerland’s third-largest city, is located at the crossroads of France, Germany, and Switzerland along the Rhine River. Its strategic position and cultural richness played a key role in its selection as the host city. This will also be the first time the contest is held in the German-speaking part of Switzerland .
Basel was chosen after a competitive bidding process, with Geneva being the runner-up. The selection was based on the city’s infrastructure, venue suitability, and capacity to accommodate thousands of fans, delegations, and media personnel. Eurovision returns to its birthplace, Switzerland, nearly 70 years after the first contest was held in Lugano in 1956 .
The slogan, visual theme, and further details about the event are expected to be announced in the coming months. Ticket sales are anticipated to start in late 2024. Eurovision 2025 promises to be a celebration of music, diversity, and Swiss hospitality on the banks of the Rhine .
