Authorities Say Social Media Star Targeted Former Boyband Member Jack Avery

American influencer Gabriela Gonzalez is under investigation in Los Angeles over allegations connected to an attempted murder plot targeting her former boyfriend, musician Jack Avery.

According to U.S. prosecutors, Gonzalez is being investigated for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder. The case has attracted major attention due to the influencer’s large online following, with nearly half a million followers across TikTok and Instagram.

Avery is best known as a former member of the pop group Why Don’t We.

Custody Dispute Allegedly Behind the Case

Authorities claim the alleged plot was connected to an ongoing custody dispute involving the couple’s seven-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors say Gonzalez allegedly sought help from both her father, Francisco Gonzalez, and her then-boyfriend, Kai Cordrey.

All three are reportedly being investigated in connection with the same allegations.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman strongly criticized the accusations during a public statement, describing the alleged actions as deeply disturbing.

According to prosecutors, the investigation began following a lengthy FBI operation.

Authorities allege that Francisco Gonzalez transferred $10,000 to Cordrey in April 2021 as an initial payment connected to the alleged plan. Two months later, an additional $4,000 was reportedly sent after more money was requested.

The case escalated further when an undercover police officer posing as a hitman allegedly met with Cordrey in September 2021. Prosecutors claim the discussion included details about payment arrangements, the intended target, and proof of the planned killing.

Jack Avery Speaks Out
Following news of the investigation, Jack Avery addressed the situation publicly on social media. The singer thanked law enforcement and prosecutors involved in the case and stated that his main focus now is being “the best father” he can be. Avery currently has more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram and has remained active online since the investigation became public.
